Sindhi Language, Threats, Opportunities and Suggestions under the Sindhi Language Awakening Campaign
Hyderabad: 2 September 2022.
Speaking under the title of 'Sindhi Language: Threats, Opportunities and Suggestions', a series of debates started by the Sindhi Language Authority, eminent journalists and people associated with the media acknowledged the distortion of the language used in print and electronic media. They have demanded to create training plans for the workers, create a media dictionary and create a manual for the media. Speaking in the Sindhi Language Authority's debate on 'Media and Sindhi Language', renowned journalists Manzoor Mirani, Rauf Chandi and Ali Zahid stated that the reason for the deterioration of the language is not spending on training workers and not being asked by the editor or the owner about the use of wrong language. is the. In an online discussion, well-known columnist and senior journalist Manzoor Mirani said, "There is no proper attention paid to the correct use of language in the media. Taking care of the language in the editorial and articles section is the work of the columnist and editor. New writers also learn the language by reading the column or seeing the corrected language in the editing. He said that the generation associated with the left after the collapse of the Soviet Union came to the newspaper world, they have political thinking, awareness of social values as well as better language. At present, the majority of newspaper workers are university students, who can be found at cheap rates for study. Moreover, these students are affiliated with various fields, most of whom have little interest in language. He said that from the editor to the reporter, there is a question about whether the news remains, but there is never a question about distorting the language or using the wrong language, so the owners of the newspaper institutions have to realize that they Better keep your business purpose, but the editor and the owners of the organization in their newspaper or channel of Sindhi language Proper use must be concerned.
Senior journalist Rauf Chandy said, "There is no doubt that language distortion occurs in media institutions. There are many reasons for this." First, basic education in Sindh was better, but now it is suffering from deterioration. On the other hand, the situation in media institutions is that the youth who do not get any job, they enter the field of journalism. He said that earlier there were good proofreaders and sub-editors, they used to train them, they used to learn while working, but now this learning has stopped. Similarly, a journalist coming to a part-time job does not have time to learn. A person can be a journalist without having good language and grammar, why should anyone learn the language. He said that electronic media has degraded the quality of language in the cycle of breaking news. He suggested that the Sindh government should include the Sindhi language authority in the registration and licensing of schools in Sindh so that the schools are bound to teach Sindhi in a standard way and the media also get quality workers. Communication with Sindhi media owners is necessary for correct media language. Because only they can oblige their workers to use the language correctly. Ali Zahid, who is in charge of the editorial page of Kavash, a young poet, said, "The editorial page is important, where you get time to correct the language, but the editor should understand the language and grammar and should be familiar with the standards of accuracy. Before the editor of the language used to be understanding, but now most of the owners are editors, so language is less important to them. Proofreader is very important, but he is not paid much. They have no training, they proofread newspapers. They learn by themselves in the institutions. He said that training plans should be made for the workers working in the media, a media language dictionary or manual should also be made for them. The host of the online discussion was the secretary of the institution Prof. Shabnam Gul.
