Dr. Sher Mehrani

The writer and researcher was born on 1st March 1980 in Ahadi Khan Rajpar village, Taluka Kot Diji, District Khairpur Mir’s. He received his early education from Government Primary School Aadhi Khan Rajpar, completed middle school at the Government Middle School of village Bubbar Waddan, matriculation from Government High School Bozdar Waddan, intermediate from Government Higher Secondary School Kumb, and later earned B.Sc. (Botany) as well as M.A. in Sindhi Literature and English Literature from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur.

Dr. Sher Meh¬rani completed his PhD in 2013 from the University of Karachi under the supervision of Dr. Ghafoor Memon, on the topic “Aesthetics in the Poetry of Shah Abdul Latif.”

Dr. Sher Mehrani began his literary career with poetry. His first poem was published in 1999, and he received training in poetry from poet Dost Muhammad Rajpar. He served for some time in the Pakistan Air Force. Later, in 2012, he secured first position in Sindh in the Sindh Public Service Commission examination and was appointed as a Lecturer at Government Degree College Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi.

He also served for a considerable period as the Editor of the monthly magazine “Sujhro”, and remained associated with Radio Pakistan Karachi as a News Translator and News Caster. He is a founding member of Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Kumb branch, and has also served as Secretary of the Kumb branch and SAS Karachi.

One of his translated novels, “Taapsi,” was published in serialized form in the monthly Sujhro for over two years.

He has received several prestigious awards, including the Shah Latif Sufism Award (2013) from the Academy of Letters, Islamabad, the Best Research Award (2014) from the Sindhi Language Authority, and the Shah Latif Award (2018) from the Department of Culture.

He has also served as a Lecturer in the Sindhi Department at the University of Karachi. Currently, he is serving as the Chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority, performing his official duties.
