Dr.Ishaq Samejo
Dr. Muhammad Ishaque alias Ishaq Samejo is eminent writer, poet, critic, cultural activist and Professor of Sindhi language and literature. Dr. Ishaq Samejo holds a PhD degree in Sindhi Language and Literature and his PhD dissertation focuses on the Progressive
Thought in Sindhi Poetry. Currently, he is the Chairperson of the Sindhi Language Authority, Government of Sindh Hyderabad. Dr Samejo has extensive teaching (22 years) administrative (09 years) and research experience of serving in the prominent public sector academic, literary, cultural historical and archival institutes in Sindh. As a Director, he has served in the Institute of Sindhology and Mirza Kalich Beg Chair, as a Chairman in Department of Sindhi, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. Dr Samejo is very well informed with publications and editorial skills and experience, and has been editing research journals of Sindhi language and literature like “Kalich” research journal (in Sindhi) published by Mirza Kalich Beg Chair, “Sindhi Adab” (in Sindhi), “Sindhological Studies” (in English) by Institute of Sindhology and “Keenjhar” research journal by the Department of Sindhi, University of Sindh. As an honorary editor, he edits a quarterly literary magazine “SARANGAA” published by Sarangaa Literary and Cultural Society. This quarterly literary/research magazine is widely circulated and read by the Sindhi writers and critics in Pakistan and abroad. As an interactive academic, researcher and public writer, Dr Samejo contributes to the public literary and cultural forums, national and international conferences like Pakistan Languages and Literature Festival, Islamabad. In 2017, under his directorship, he organized a first International Conference on Sindh Studies and a national level Folk Art Festival at the Institute of Sindhology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. He has visited India, Malaysia, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Dubai and many parts of Pakistan to present his papers on literature, culture and language. As an academic language expert and literary figure, Dr Samejo is credited to have represented and worked with USAID’s Pakistan Reading Project and Sindh Reading Project executed jointly by USIAD and Government of Sindh. Also, as a language expert and reviewer, Dr Samejo has been part of Sindh Textbook Board’s curriculum and coursework development for class/grades 3,5 and 9th As a literary critic, Dr. Ishaq Samejo has produced essays and reviews on literature. He has authored 20 books in the field of language and literature. The five books attain the status of research publications under `Y and Z` category by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Dr Samejo’s books are included in M.A Sindhi syllabus. Dr Samejo has been/is the member of many official committees and forums of the various institutes of Sindh and Pakistan.
